Slab City
Slab City is a "just in time" locale of old and new campers, trailers and expensive motorhomes all pulled on the slabs of a decommissioned military base. The community has a church, a stage with very eclectic seating and several social clubs including the Loner's Club and of course, the Karma Kafe. Here's several NYT stories on the people of Slab City. There are snow birds and slabbers--and they all come together at social hour.
